Why depression is more common in girls and women.

Before talking about the reasons, why depression is more common in girls and women, lets first talk about, what is depression.
Depression: Its an abnormal condition involving body, thoughts and mood. Depression highly interferes with daily life and cause pain for the depressed and for the people who care him. Depression is not the passing through the blue mood and also not a sign of your personal weakness.

 Depression may come in three major forms,

  1. Seasonal affective disorder: it commonly affects the body at the start of Winter and prevails till the climate remain cold. A less common form of seasonal affective disorder starts with the advent of summer and affects body till summer's end.
  2. Dysthemia: It is comparatively less severe in symptoms, but is chronic in nature. It is characterized by the sad mood for more than two years, excess or absence of sleep, low energy levels, fatigue, low self-esteem, poor appetite or eating disorders and hopelessness.
  3. Bipolar disorders; It is a mental disorder and the symptoms are more severe, common symptoms are variation in mood energy and ability to function.

Depression is twice more common in women than men, the exact cause of this fact still needs further explanation, however, the major seven reasons are,

  • The genetic predisposition of women is more prone to depression in women.
  • Hormonal fluctuations are more common in women than in men. Hormone fluctuates during the menstrual periods, pregnancy and menopause.
  • Women naturally think about events more. Although at balance level, it is a good attribute, however, can lead to depression as well. 

  • Women are more invested in relationships than men, particularly pregnancy, so any shift in a relationship can affect women more, and potentially can cause depression.
  • Women are commonly more overloaded with work, in addition to their professional responsibilities like men, additionally they have to take care about their home, kitchen, child, relatives and elder members of the family.
  • One possible reason is that too, women are more likely to visit physicians about the diagnosis of depression, so the revealed figures shows more depression in women and girls.
